Ukrainian President Zelensky voiced his dismay on Wednesday regarding the inadequate support received from the United Nations (UN) and the Red Cross in response to the aftermath of the Russian-occupied Kakhovka dam's destruction. Speaking in an interview with a source, Zelensky expressed his shock, emphasizing that he believed these organizations should be present to safeguard people's lives in times of crisis.

Flooded Villages and Impending Humanitarian Disaster Cause Concern

The destruction of the dam, situated near the frontline in Ukraine, has resulted in the flooding of numerous villages and parts of a nearby city, leading to growing fears of an imminent humanitarian catastrophe. Ukrainian officials have estimated that thousands of individuals will be forced to evacuate their homes, and many have already begun doing so independently.

During the interview, Zelensky, speaking in Ukrainian, shared the tragic toll the disaster has taken on both human and animal lives, as conveyed by a German interpreter. He described the distressing sight of drowned individuals floating by the rooftops of submerged houses. Zelensky also highlighted the challenges faced in evacuating people from the occupied Kherson region, citing instances of Ukrainian forces being fired upon from a distance by occupiers when attempting rescue missions.

NATO Condemns "Outrageous Destruction" of Kakhovka Dam

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has announced plans to preside over an emergency coordination panel meeting on Thursday to address the "outrageous destruction" of a critical dam located on the frontlines in Ukraine. In a tweet, Stoltenberg expressed concern over the catastrophic consequences of the Kakhovka dam's destruction, including the displacement of thousands of people and the onset of an ecological catastrophe within Ukraine.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister to Participate Virtually in NATO-Ukraine Commission Meeting
