Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) and the Burundi National Defence Forces (FNDB) together killed at least 40 rebels from the National Liberation Front (FNL) armed group on November 25.
This foreign armed group has been driven from 4 hills overlooking the community of Nabombi, according to Lieutenant Marc Elongo, spokesman for the Sokola 2 South South Kivu operations area, in a statement to the media on Sunday, November 27, 2022.
“Aloys Nzabampema, the self-declared Burundian general, is the leader of the foreign armed group FNL, which was attacked by the FARDC-FNDB Taskforce in a high-intensity offensive operation. The enemy was driven from all four hills overlooking the community of Nabombi, which had earlier served as Mr. Aloys Nzabampema’s command center and logistical base, by the Taskforce’s ferocious attacks. In Mwenga area, the fugitive enemy sought refuge in the Itombwe forest. At least 40 assailants were defeated “He added.
The Taskforce is presently engaged in deep operations to remove this armed group from conditions which is dangerous, according to the army spokesman in South Kivu’s southern region.
He claims that the sector command urges everyone to work with the military to put an end to both domestic and international armed groups.
It is significant to note that the EAC force’s Burundian contingent entered Uvira on Monday, August 15 in order to find both domestic and international armed forces.
