According to sources, the South African administration has taken this step to limit the potential supply of the country's ammunition by Poland to Ukraine amid the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict. This move is in line with the African National Congress (ANC) reaffirming their commitment to Russia as a longstanding ally and friend.

The ANC has recently called Russia “a longstanding ally and friend to the ANC” and reiterated plans to strengthen relations with the country. “We have made it clear that Russia is a friend, and we have had cooperative partnerships for many years, including partnerships as we combated the apartheid regime,” said Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa, Naledi Pandor.
