Thousands of Celtic fans gathered at Glasgow Cross in the city centre to celebrate their team's victory in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday. However, the festivities took a dark turn as three people were seriously assaulted during the event. Police reported that a 31-year-old man was in a serious condition and being treated at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital following an attack. Two other men, aged 33 and 19, were also assaulted in separate incidents but have since been discharged from the hospital.

 Police Intervene to Prevent Escalation

According to Police Scotland, officers had to intervene to prevent situations from escalating throughout the day. Ten people were arrested for various offenses, including assault, acts of public disorder, and police assault. Additionally, eight people were issued with fixed penalty notices. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the incidents. Inquiries into all reported incidents are currently ongoing.

Unacceptable Levels of Anti-Social Behavior

Superintendent Gerry Corrigan expressed disappointment at the level of anti-social behavior and disorder witnessed during the celebrations. He stated that a proportionate policing plan had been in place to prioritize public safety and minimize disruption to businesses and communities. However, despite these efforts, incidents of violence occurred. Swift and robust action was taken by police officers to prevent the situations from escalating further.
