Turkey third in asylum applications to the EU

Turks in asylum applications to the European Union; It was the nation that applied the most after Syrians and Afghans. According to the data on individuals applying for asylum published in Eurostat, Turks are the nation that makes the most applications after Syrians and Afghans.

The highest number of applications were made by Syrian citizens, with 18,420 applications, followed by Afghanistan citizens, with 13,695. Turkish citizens come in third place with 6,770 applications.

The Russia-Ukraine War also led to an increase in asylum. There were 2,370 asylum applications in February 2022 and 12,890 in March 2022. However, it is stated that the numbers started to decline month by month, and the temporary protection of Ukrainians was also influential in this.

While Germany is the EU member with the highest number of asylum applications, with 24,910 applications, this corresponds to 25 percent of the total asylum applications. Austria, France, Spain, and Italy are the other countries with the highest number of asylum applications.
