Fishermen also recovered the remaining half from the sea during the incident. Close Encounter and Pursuit Sources reveal that the shark nearly consumed the entirety of the victim’s body. However, upon noticing the approaching fishermen’s boat, the shark fled the scene, discarding the lower half of the body into the water.
The fishermen successfully retrieved the bottom part and then pursued the shark until they were able to catch it. The competent authorities, along with a specialized team from the Ministry of Environment, transported the shark to the Institute of Marine Sciences in Hurghada. There, experts will analyze and dissect the shark to prepare a scientific report, shedding light on its behavior and extracting the remaining part of the tourist’s body.
Insights into the Shark and Investigation Upon capturing the deadly shark, the fishermen discovered that it weighed approximately a ton, measuring 4 meters in length, with an 80 cm mouth opening. The decision to hunt the shark was crucial in understanding its behavior, analyzing it, and uncovering the reasons behind the observed changes. It is worth noting that such incidents are rare in Egypt compared to other regions, such as America, Europe, and South Africa.
A video recorded by a German tourist captured the moment before the attack, showing the shark seemingly playing and dancing before devouring the unfortunate tourist. In a related development, authorities are investigating the presence of the killer shark in the area. They are examining possible factors, including the presence of dead cattle that may have attracted the shark or if it had placed its young embryos in the vicinity, perceiving the tourist as a threat. The study and autopsy of the shark will provide valuable insights into its behavior and habitat.
