AIG CTD Shaukat Abbas has revealed that the mastermind behind the Peshawar Police Lines attack has been traced to Afghanistan. The attack, which resulted in the martyrdom of 84 people and left 235 injured, was planned by the banned TTP Jamaat-ul-Ahrar group in Afghanistan.
According to Abbas, the police lines have traced the mastermind of the attack and the handler of the suicide bomber. The organizational name of the suicide bomber is Qari, he added. The accused Imtiaz and the suicide bomber received training in Qari Bashir’s center Akhnate in Afghanistan.
Abbas further revealed that the mastermind of the suicide bomber is Ghaffar alias Salman, who was in touch with the suicide bomber on the day of the incident. Imtiaz Khan, the accused in the case, was arrested by the CTD. Both Imtiaz and the suicide bomber received training in a center in Afghanistan, Abbas said.
The revelation of the involvement of the TTP Jamaat-ul-Ahrar group and the planning of the attack in Afghanistan highlights the need for increased cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan to address terrorism in the region.
