Nearly all primary and secondary schools in the nation as well as numerous council nurseries have closed as a result of it. Unions on Tuesday rejected a revised pay offer because it was “insulting.” Shirley-Anne Somerville, the secretary of education, called their demands for a 10% pay increase “unaffordable.
” Ms. Somerville argued that a new pay proposal from employer which would see increases of up to 6.85% for the lowest paid—was reasonable.
