Pope Francis offers his prayers to the victims of a landslide on the southern Italian island of Ischia during his weekly Angelus address.
The death toll from a massive landslide on Italy’s southern island of Ischia has risen to seven, including a three-week-old infant, while ten people are still missing and hundreds have been evacuated.
Following a special Cabinet meeting on Sunday, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni declared a state of emergency on the island due to “exceptional flood and landslide events.
The government provided €2 million ($2.1 million) in aid and assistance to the local population, according to a statement.
