Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has strongly denied rumors circulating on social media concerning the alleged departure of 160 police officers from the country due to “poor working conditions.” In a statement released today, the DGSN dismissed these claims as false and provided clarity on the actual situation.
The DGSN clarified that during the first half of this year and throughout 2022, there were a total of 38 cases involving officers abandoning their posts or exceeding their annual leave outside the country without proper justification. It was also revealed that four other police officers were exempt from administrative sanctions as they provided valid medical and hospitalization records justifying their extended stays abroad.
Investigations Reveal Officers Left Posts for Personal Reasons, Not Professional Conditions
Thorough administrative investigations conducted by the DGSN’s inspection and human resources management departments concluded that the officers in question had unjustifiably abandoned their posts for personal or family reasons rather than professional reasons or poor working conditions. The DGSN emphasized that these cases were not representative of a systemic issue within the police force.
The DGSN further addressed the reports claiming that the agency had issued an internal memorandum with new conditions for obtaining annual leave for overseas trips. They stated that a memorandum had indeed been issued, but it aimed to provide guidelines for the supervision and regulation of annual leave, ensuring a balance between employees’ entitlement to leave and the continuity of public service.
DGSN Statement Dispels Misinformation Surrounding Alleged Departure of Police Officers
As the controversy surrounding the alleged departure of police officers gained traction on social media, the DGSN’s statement aimed to provide clarity and dispel any misinformation. The agency emphasized that the number of officers involved was significantly lower than the circulated figure of 160. They also highlighted that the main reasons behind the officers’ actions were personal and family-related, rather than dissatisfaction with working conditions.
The DGSN’s statement serves to address the rumors and false claims, ensuring that the public has accurate information about the actual number of officers involved and the reasons behind their decisions.
