Minister of Commerce emphasizes the importance of supporting MSMEs

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has announced the launch of Cohort III of the Growth Accelerator program. This program aims to provide support and opportunities for impactful and innovative Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and agricultural cooperatives in Liberia. Through co-financing grants, mentorship, and technical assistance, the program aims to help these enterprises scale up and grow.

During the launch event held in Monrovia, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Hon. Mawine Diggs, expressed her enthusiasm for the program. She emphasized that supporting MSMEs is a priority for the government and commended the UNDP and other partners for their initiative. Minister Diggs recognized the positive impact of the program in empowering young entrepreneurs and contributing to poverty reduction in the country.

UNDP's commitment to empowering Liberian businesses through the Growth Accelerator program

UNDP Liberia's outgoing Resident Representative, Stephen Rodrigues, highlighted the importance of MSMEs as drivers of economic growth. He emphasized that the Growth Accelerator program was designed to create more jobs, empower women and youth, and foster a diversified economy. Rodrigues expressed UNDP's commitment to providing financial and technical support to local entrepreneurs, aiming to build sustainable institutions and contribute to Liberia's economic development.

Rodrigues also recognized the significance of strong partnerships and collaboration. He welcomed the contributions of other partners, including the government and the newly formed partnerships with the International Bank of Liberia Limited and the United Bank of Africa. He encouraged the Ministry of Commerce to take ownership of the program and lead efforts to strengthen partnerships that would have a transformative impact on the growth potential of Liberian MSMEs and employment opportunities for youth and women.
