Michael Cohen, the former attorney and fixer for former US President Donald Trump, has accused his former boss of trying to incite violence.
This accusation comes as Trump faces the possibility of arrest next week. According to Cohen, Trump posted on social media, urging his supporters to protest on his behalf as part of an investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney into a hush-money payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016.
Cohen further claims that Trump’s call to protest was similar to his rhetoric before the January 6th insurrection and was intended to incite violence for his benefit. Trump’s spokesman, however, disputed Cohen’s claims, saying that Trump was merely responding to alleged illegal leaks.
Cohen had pleaded guilty to charges relating to the payment in 2018 and was sentenced to three years in prison. He has since become a vocal critic of Trump and has written two books critical of his former employer. Cohen’s recent accusation of Trump attempting to incite violence adds to the growing concerns about Trump’s behavior and rhetoric.
The potential arrest of Trump next week in connection with the hush-money payment investigation has caused significant concern amongst his supporters. Cohen’s accusation has added to this concern, particularly in light of Trump’s previous encouragement of his supporters to take action on his behalf.
Given the events of January 6th, Cohen’s accusation of Trump’s attempts to incite violence is a serious concern. It remains to be seen how this accusation will impact Trump’s future and whether he will face any legal consequences for his actions.
