In response to a legal demand, India has blocked access to the official Twitter account of the Pakistani government, marking the third time that such an action has been taken. Whenever someone attempts to access the Pakistani government’s Twitter account, the message “Account Withheld @Govtof” appears. This latest move by India is in accordance with the emergency powers under the Information Technology Rules, 2021, as per a statement by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
This isn’t the first time that India has blocked Pakistan’s Twitter account, with previous incidents occurring in October 2022 and July of the same year. According to reports, the Pakistani government’s Twitter handle had been made accessible again after the July blockage. However, it seems that India has taken action once again to restrict access to the account.

The tensions between India and Pakistan have been long-standing, and these incidents on social media only serve to exacerbate the situation. The blocking of the Pakistani government’s Twitter account is just one example of the measures that have been taken by both countries to restrict each other’s access to information and communication channels.
As social media platforms continue to be an integral part of modern-day communication, the blocking of official government accounts on Twitter is a concerning development. It remains to be seen whether India and Pakistan will find a way to resolve their differences and promote open communication channels in the future.
