29 Yanomami indigenous people were hospitalized at the Santo Antônio Children’s Hospital, between January 16 and 23 in Boa Vista city, according to information from the city hall of the capital of Roraima state. The total number of patients is now 47.
The new admissions refer to the period in which the Ministry of Health was on site and rescued indigenous people with severe malnutrition and malaria in the last week.
The Hospital is the only health unit in the state of Roraima that serves children up to 13 years old. In addition, the unit also usually receives patients from Guyana and Venezuela.
On Monday, at least 26 children and two adults were rescued during the mission of the Ministry of Health, carried out this Sunday.
The secretary of Indigenous Health of the Ministry of Health, Weibe Tapeba, defined the situation as “a war operation”, after accompanying all the action.
