Honduras Coffee Exports Soar by Nearly 49% in April

Honduras, the largest coffee producer in Central America, has reported a significant increase in coffee exports in April 2023. According to the Honduran Coffee Institute (IHCAFE), coffee exports surged by almost 49% compared to the same period last year.
The total volume of coffee exports for April 2023 was approximately 940,000 bags of 60 kilograms each, generating revenues of over $139 million. This increase in exports is attributed to favorable weather conditions and the recovery of coffee plantations from the impact of previous hurricanes.
The United States remained the top destination for Honduran coffee exports, accounting for more than half of the total exports. Germany and Belgium followed closely as the second and third largest importers of Honduran coffee.
The rise in coffee exports is a significant boost for the Honduran economy, as coffee is the country’s primary agricultural export. The coffee industry employs around 400,000 people in the country and generates significant foreign exchange earnings.
The Honduran government has expressed its satisfaction with the increase in coffee exports and has committed to supporting the coffee industry to ensure its continued growth. The government’s support includes providing farmers with technical assistance, promoting exports, and investing in the country’s infrastructure to enhance coffee production and export capabilities.
