The importance of bolstering safety and security standards in international sports was recently highlighted by His Highness Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein, Chairperson of the International Olympic Committee Protection Working Committee. He made these remarks during the World Congress of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) held in Manila, Phillipines.

In a statement released by the Jordan Olympic Committee, His Highness commended the tireless efforts of FIBA in implementing the concept of protection. Emphasizing the crucial role of sports federations in adhering to safety and security norms, he praised the institution for practicing the highest safety standards to protect participating players.

“FIBA displayed admirable commitment towards drafting a protection policy last year, setting an excellent example for other sports federations in promoting the idea of safety,” His Highness said.

His Highness also stressed the importance of nurturing a safety culture starting from local sports federations and national Olympic committees. He highlighted this as the core focus of the working committees for conservation within the IOC. The committees are working to develop sustainable structures promoting efficient application of the concept of safety.

His Highness expressed that protection in sports is the collective concern and shared responsibility of all participating nations. His Highness Prince Faisal, besides leading the Jordan Olympic Committee, holds several prestigious positions. These include his role in the Executive Office of IOC, as the Vice-Chairperson of IOC’s Committee for Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, and as Chair of the IOC Working Group on the Prevention of Harassment and Abuse in Sport.
