Uganda closes schools to combat Ebola

Uganda closes schools to combat Ebola

Uganda halted schools across the country on Friday to combat the spread of Ebola, despite the health minister’s claims that new cases had decreased.

The decision to close schools two weeks before the end of the school year was made earlier this month in response to the deaths of eight youngsters from the extremely contagious sickness.

However, the number of new cases documented in Kampala and the epicenters of Mubende and Kassanda has decreased in recent weeks, according to Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng.

“The major breakthrough in Uganda’s Ebola war is that communities have realized that Ebola is terrible and kills,” she stated.

“We advise the public to stay vigilant and work with health teams if we are to win this struggle, and there are evidence that Uganda is winning,” she added.

According to Uganda’s WHO headquarters, no cases have been declared in Kampala for nine days, Mubende for ten days, and Kassanda for twelve days as of November 22.

According to Ugandan authorities, the outbreak has claimed 55 fatalities out of 141 cases, prompting lockdowns in Mubende and Kassanda.
