Healthy Shopping and Fitness Made Easier with Discovery Vitality’s New Partnerships

Discovery Vitality Integrates with Checkers and Sixty60
The South African health insurance giant, Discovery Vitality, has announced a strategic partnership with Checkers and its delivery platform, Sixty60. This collaboration is set to extend the HealthyFood benefit to Discovery Vitality members, enabling them to earn up to 75% back on healthy food purchases at Checkers or through the Sixty60 online delivery platform.
For nearly 15 years, the HealthyFood benefit has encouraged healthier eating habits among Discovery Vitality members. Until now, the benefit was only available through selected retailers such as Woolworths and Dischem, but the addition of Checkers to the list is expected to have a significant positive impact on health.
Flexible Shopping Preferences
Discovery Vitality understands that approximately 60% of its members have distinct retailer preferences, particularly between in-store and online shopping. To cater to these preferences, the company will allow members to choose their preferred in-store and online partners. Neil Schreuder, Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer at Shoprite, believes this partnership will facilitate Checkers and Sixty60 customers in making healthier food choices.
Vitality Fitness: A New Addition to the Vitality Family
Apart from enhancing the HealthyFood benefit, Discovery Vitality is also introducing other improvements, including Vitality Fitness. Scheduled to launch in 2024, Vitality Fitness is a unique platform that will enable customers to locate and book exercise classes. The platform will offer access to over 400 fitness facilities across South Africa, with up to 24 free visits per year. Members can join a Virgin Active or Planet Fitness gym for a R499 activation fee and receive up to 75% off monthly membership fees. The company is also offering a pay-as-you-go option, allowing for three free visits.
The fitness sector is diverse and fragmented, often making it challenging for enthusiasts and beginners alike to navigate. With the introduction of Vitality Fitness, Discovery Vitality aims to address individual exercise needs, making fitness more accessible and enjoyable for its members.
The Growing Popularity of Grocery Delivery Services
In recent years, grocery delivery services have witnessed a significant increase in popularity, as more households combine in-store and online channels for grocery shopping. This year, 34% of Vitality members who ordered groceries online did so at least weekly, reflecting the growing reliance on online grocery purchasing due to its convenience. In light of this trend, Discovery Vitality’s new partnership offers a convenient solution for health-conscious consumers.
Healthier Living Made More Rewarding
The objective behind these updates is to make healthy eating and exercise more accessible, affordable, and attractive to Vitality members, and South Africans in general. By incentivising healthy lifestyle behaviours, Discovery aims to make people healthier and enhance their lives. The Vitality HealthyFood benefit enhancements will be implemented in late 2024, making healthier living even more rewarding.
