Health Minister Adrian Dix has informed that British Columbia hospitals have planned to cancel surgeries to make room for patients with respiratory illnesses.
This comes after parents worry about long emergency room waits with sick children. However, the decision is yet to implement its plans, said Dix, as he faced Opposition calls for his resignation.
“I’ve raved about our health-care system my whole life, but I see it now slowly crumbling, and it scares me and worries me,” said Rachel Thexton, a parent who waited hours in line for medical care.
“In my lifetime, I’ve never seen this level of clear, unavailable resources for anyone, child or adult, to receive health care when they need it in an emergency.”
