The Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks issued a nationwide health alert for the use of morphine, among other drugs, following investigations into the infection of 61 people with meningitis in Durango.
According to the Secretary of Health (SSA), this disease is not contagious from person to person; “it is a direct infection of the central nervous system through anesthetic procedures”.
For this reason, an alert was issued for several medicines, since the investigations seek to determine how the contamination occurred. The Federal Health System was requested to preventively immobilize them until the investigation is concluded, the related medicines.
Hugo Lopez-Gatell Ramirez, Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, indicated that the investigation will take time, as they cannot make hurried rulings.
