At least two soldiers and three policemen were killed by unidentified gunmen in Enugu and on the Enugu-Ebonyi border in Southeast Nigeria on Saturday.
The attackers first killed the soldiers at a checkpoint in Enugu before moving to the border and shooting three policemen on the spot. A fourth policeman was shot in the leg and is receiving medical treatment.
Recent incidents of violence and kidnappings in the region have been attributed to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), though the group denies involvement.
This follows a similar attack in September 2022 where five people, including three policemen, were killed in Enugu and Ebonyi states.
