
EU Delegation Emphasizes Yemen’s Economic Stabilization and Unity in Aden Talks

A high-level diplomatic delegation, comprising European Union Ambassador to Yemen Gabriel Munuera Viñals, Ambassador of Finland Anu-Eerika Viljanen, Ambassador of France Jean-Marie Safa, Ambassador of Germany Hubert Jäger, and Ambassador of the Netherlands Jeannette Seppen, concluded a significant joint visit to Aden, Yemen’s port city. During their visit, the ambassadors reaffirmed the European Union’s support for President Rashad al-Alimi, the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), and the imperative of unity amidst Yemen’s challenging circumstances.
EU Support for Yemen’s Leadership
The ambassadors used this occasion to reiterate the European Union’s strong support for President Rashad al-Alimi, the Presidential Leadership Council, and their commitment to fostering unity within Yemen. Their discussions revolved around recent developments, with the ambassadors lauding President al-Alimi’s dedication to peace and his constructive engagement with ongoing peace initiatives.
Meetings with Yemeni Officials
As part of their diplomatic mission, the EU ambassadors engaged in constructive dialogues with key Yemeni officials, including Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalek Saeed, Minister of Planning & International Cooperation Waed Badhib, Minister of Finance Salem bin Bureik, Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen (CBY) Ahmed Ghaleb al-Maabaqi, and Minister of Social Affairs Mohammed al-Zaouri.

Economic Stabilization and Reform
The EU diplomats commended the Yemeni government’s commendable efforts to stabilize the country’s economy and urged them to persist in implementing crucial reforms and enhancing service delivery. Given the exceedingly challenging circumstances, they emphasized the paramount importance of unity of purpose in Yemen.
Facilitating Humanitarian and Development Efforts
In their discussions, the ambassadors highlighted the necessity of creating a conducive operating environment for humanitarian and development actors working tirelessly to assist the Yemeni population. Providing vital support to Yemenis in need is a shared priority.

Civil Society Engagement and Gender Empowerment

Support for UN Special Envoy
In alignment with their unwavering commitment to peace and stability in Yemen, the EU Heads of Mission reiterated their steadfast support for the work of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen.
