Embracing Diversity for Social Cohesion
Published by Az Editions, “Klescu Lom: The Challenge of Cultural Ambivalence in Chad” delves into the intricacies of culture and social cohesion, exploring the dynamics of coexistence among the socio-cultural groups in Chad. Freddy Kodio elucidates the concept of unity amidst diversity, emphasizing the significance of bonds formed through interfaith marriages in fostering social cohesion within the country.
This 110-page book, divided into five chapters, serves as a guide for Chadians, pointing towards the path of genuine social cohesion. The author elaborates on how the various ethnic groups in Chad have lived and continue to coexist, advocating that unity is paramount. Freddy Kodio highlights the role of marriage as the connecting thread among the 248 ethnic and socio-cultural groups, transcending religious currents and contributing to a harmonious existence.
“Klescu Lom” recounts stories woven around a meeting place for young individuals, particularly focusing on Sadia and Ngaro, whose shared journey leads them towards a forbidden marriage due to religious disparities. Kodio emphasizes the distinction between cultural identity and religious beliefs, advocating for the coexistence of diverse cultural backgrounds.
In the face of differing opinions from religious leaders, Deli Sainzoumi Nestor, in his literary critique, views the book as a call to those who, in the name of religion, reject friendly relations, brotherhood, and even interfaith marriages with those from differing cultures or religions.
