The Philippine National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has issued an order to telecommunication companies (telcos) in preparation for the potential impact of Super Typhoon Mawar. The directive requires telcos to ensure the immediate deployment of their technical teams and swift repair of mobile services in the event of outages caused by the storm.
The NTC has also instructed telcos to establish “Libreng Tawag” (free call) and “Libreng Charging Stations” (free charging stations) in strategically identified areas that are likely to be affected by the typhoon. These initiatives aim to provide essential communication and power services to affected individuals.
In addition, telcos have been asked to coordinate with local government units (LGUs) and strictly adhere to health protocols to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 during the restoration efforts. To monitor progress, the NTC expects regular updates every six hours from telco firms regarding ongoing restoration activities on their networks and facilities. They have further requested a comprehensive timeline detailing the complete operations
