The Minister of Petroleum Mr. Mahaman Sani Mahamadou and the Vice-President of the Chinese group SINOPEC Mr. Xue Weisong proceeded to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the exploitation of several oil blocks in Niger.

This new partnership with one of the largest oil groups in the world will enable the country to continue the transformation of its vast oil potential, in accordance with the objectives set by the authorities, which make the development of this sector the engine of the national economy.

The signing ceremony of the agreement took place at the Radisson Blu hotel in Niamey in the presence of the Minister of Petroleum local source confirmed. Others present include Mr. Mahaman Sani Mahamadou, the Vice-President in charge of international affairs of the Chinese group SINOPEC, Mr. Xue Weisong, Mr. Jiang Feng, the Chinese Ambassador to Niger, as well as executives from the Ministry of Petroleum.

A Historic Partnership Paving the Way for Niger's Oil Sector Development

Speaking on this occasion, the Minister of Petroleum expressed his delight at participating in the signing of this agreement, which he described as "historic" for the Republic of Niger and the Chinese oil group SINOPEC.

Mr. Mahaman Sani Mahamadou emphasized that the partnership being formalized marked a crucial step in the development of the country's oil potential. He also acknowledged the significance of the presence of Vice-President Xue Weisong in Niamey, which he believed reflected the importance that the Chinese multinational attached to this partnership.

The Minister also commended the involvement of Chinese Ambassador Mr. Jiang Feng, recognizing him as a key player in establishing strong and lasting relations between the two nations.

According to Minister Mahaman Sani Mahamadou, this partnership with one of the world's largest oil groups would enable Niger to continue the transformation of its vast oil potential in line with the objectives set by President Mohamed Bazoum. The President's vision is to make the oil sector the driving force behind the country's economy.

The Minister further highlighted that thanks to an improved business climate and the nearing completion of the Niger-Benin Export Pipeline project, spanning 2000 kilometers, Niger has become an attractive destination for oil groups seeking to invest in the sector. Thus, this agreement not only recognizes the country's oil potential but also signals a significant step toward achieving Niger's ambitions in the global oil arena.
