Former Warlord Salvatore Mancuso Appeals Extradition to Colombia, Seeks Deportation to Italy or Stay in the US

According to local media, Salvatore Mancuso, a former warlord, has appealed his extradition process to Colombia and has asked to be deported to Italy or to stay in the United States due to personal safety and security considerations.

The Colombian Foreign Ministry, through the Colombian Embassy in Washington D.C., has requested information on the current status of extradition requests filed against the former paramilitary chief from the United States Department of State.

The American authorities are studying the extensive documentation provided by the Colombian judicial authority as part of the extradition process. Mancuso completed a 12-year cocaine trafficking sentence in March 2020 and is scheduled to contribute to the truth before the Special Jurisdiction for Peace on March 29.
