Mysterious Discovery in Palermo Lake

The tranquility of Palermo, Buenos Aires was disrupted recently when the body of a man, estimated to be around 50 years old, was discovered floating in one of its lakes. The man was found in the Victoria Ocampo lake, located near the Japanese Garden, a serene spot now tainted with the mystery of an unexpected death. The deceased man was found dressed in a fleece sweater, trousers, a jacket, and sneakers, with no identification on his person, except for a card that is currently under examination.

No Signs of Violence or Drowning

Following the gruesome discovery, an autopsy was conducted to determine the cause of death. Interestingly, the autopsy reports indicated that the man did not die from drowning. There were also no visible injuries on his body, which alludes to the fact that his death was not a result of violence. This has led specialists to believe that the cause of death could be drug-related or due to sudden death syndrome.

Investigations Underway

Considering the circumstances of the discovery, the initial proceedings have been for the investigation of a suspicious death. The Criminalistics Unit, involved in the probe, has confirmed the absence of visible injuries on the body. Further clues to the man’s identity were a set of tattoos and a SUBE card found at the scene, which is believed to belong to him.

The case has been taken over by the Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office 53, under the leadership of prosecutor Matías Di Lello. The prosecutor has ordered the Mobile Criminalistics Unit to start proceedings for the “investigation of death by suspicious causes.” Investigations are ongoing to establish the man’s identity based on the evidence collected so far.

A Point of Interest: The Lake’s Past

The lake where the body was found holds significance due to a past incident. It is near the location where engineer Mariano Barbieri was murdered on August 30. Although there is no immediate indication that the two incidents are connected, the coincidence of the locations cannot be ignored. The connection, if any, between these two incidents is yet to be established.
