Police in the Moga region have detained six associates of radical preacher Amritpal Singh, a supporter of Khalistan, and have increased their presence in the area in preparation for his arrest. Internet access throughout the province has also been restricted until noon tomorrow.
Singh is the leader of “Waris Punjab De,” a radical group founded by campaigner and actor Deep Sidhu. The police, who have surrounded Singh in the Shahkot neighborhood of Jalandhar, have already closed all roads and erected substantial barricades.
Singh is known to be accompanied by armed followers, and the police are taking precautions to ensure his arrest proceeds without incident. The Punjab police have delayed taking action against Singh until after the G20 summit.
