A newborn baby was stolen from Khulna Medical College Hospital in Bangladesh, while their family was embroiled in an argument with an ambulance driver over the fare.
The incident occurred around 5:30 pm on Tuesday, according to the hospital’s director, Rabiul Hasan.
The altercation began when the family was trying to hire an ambulance to take them home, and the driver demanded an excessive fare. The aunt of the baby was holding the child during the argument and handed the baby to an unknown woman wearing a mask, while she went to break up the fight. The woman then fled with the baby during the commotion.
The mother, Ranima Begum, had given birth to the child earlier that day and was discharged from the hospital with her family. Police have been informed and are reviewing CCTV footage in an effort to rescue the child.
