Mob Assaults Man from Minority Community in Telangana
A shocking incident unfolded in Telangana’s Medak district as a man, identified as Imran Ahmed and belonging to a minority community, was brutally beaten by a mob. The assault occurred after an altercation between Imran Ahmed and a gas cylinder delivery person. A video capturing the incident, where Imran’s mother and pregnant sister tried to intervene and prevent the attack, has gone viral on social media platforms, sparking outrage and concern.
Altercation over Gas Cylinder Returns Turns Violent
According to the police, the incident originated from an argument between Imran Ahmed and the gas delivery person regarding the return of an empty cylinder. On May 7, while the delivery person, who was in ‘deeksha’ (preparing for a pilgrimage), delivered an LPG cylinder to Imran’s residence, he requested the return of the empty cylinder two days later. However, Imran responded that it would be done at a later time. This disagreement escalated, and Imran allegedly abused the gas delivery person using offensive language and even hit him with a footwear.
Subsequently, the gas delivery person informed a group of people about the incident. Outraged by the actions of Imran, the mob arrived at his house, forcibly dragged him out, and mercilessly beat him. Despite the brave efforts of his mother and pregnant sister to protect him, the assault continued. Disturbingly, the attackers chanted slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ during the incident. The police intervened and dispersed the mob.
Arrests Made in Connection with the Assault
Following the incident, the gas cylinder delivery person filed a complaint with the police, alleging that Imran’s actions had offended his religious sentiments. Consequently, the police registered a case against Imran and arrested him. Additionally, a separate case was registered against the members of the mob, including a local councillor. Notices have been issued to 11 individuals involved.
Meanwhile, amidst the aftermath of the assault, Imran’s sister gave birth to a baby on May 14. Tragically, the child later passed away. While speculations have emerged linking the infant’s death to the assault, the police have stated that the connection is yet to be confirmed and will be subject to verification.
