On Tuesday evening at half past ten, the tranquility of Rekola Church in Vantaa was shattered as an intentional fire engulfed the outer wall of the historic building. The police have launched an investigation into the incident, treating it as an act of vandalism. Eyewitnesses are urged to come forward with any information that may assist in identifying the suspected perpetrator.

Eyewitnesses Hold the Key to Solving the Case

The Central Uusimaa rescue service was alerted about the fire shortly after 9:30 p.m. Thanks to the swift action of a vigilant resident in the neighboring house, who initiated the initial extinguishing efforts, the fire was prevented from causing further damage. Nine units of the rescue service promptly arrived at the scene to secure the premises and ensure the safety of the area.

According to an eyewitness, the suspected perpetrator had slammed the church doors just moments before a cloud of smoke billowed out. This crucial piece of information adds weight to the police's suspicion that the fire was intentionally started.

Police Seek Public's Assistance in Identifying the Suspect

The Itä-Uusimaa Police Department is determined to bring the perpetrator to justice and restore peace to the community. They have described the suspect as a 30-year-old man, approximately 165-175 centimeters tall. At the time of the incident, he was seen wearing dark pants, a hoodie, and peculiar barefoot shoes. Notably, his shirt bore the words "RUN THC" in white.

To aid in their investigation, the police are appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of Rekola Church on Kustaantie around nine o'clock in the evening. Any observation, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could provide a breakthrough in the case.
