Armed men abducted a protected personality on the recently constructed Rumuokoro Flyover in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State yesterday, killing four Police officers in his convoy in the process.
The gunmen were said to have waited for the kidnap target around the Flyover, only to begin shooting sporadically at motorists and everyone in sight upon sighting their target. He was kidnapped and whisked away, alongside an undisclosed amount of money.
According to an eyewitness, “This (yesterday) afternoon, around 3 pm, we heard gunshots on top of the flyover. We earlier thought it was security men that were shooting because they were in military uniform.
“The shooting continued while cars that were at the foot of the flyover have to stop. The boys killed four Policemen that were escorting a big man. They carried money from that convoy and kidnapped the big man. After that, they entered their car and drove off,” he added.
Reached for comments, the State Police Command spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the attack. She added that three (not four) Police officers were attacked and that she hadn’t been entirely briefed on the incident.
