Six alleged members of the criminal organization also known as the 'Clan del Golfo' were arrested in a joint operation conducted by the National Police, the Colombian Navy, and the Army. The capture, carried out with a court order, took place in the municipalities of Cantagallo and San Pablo, located in the southern region of department of Bolivar. These individuals have been accused of belonging to a criminal structure that allegedly orchestrated extortions and committed murders in four localities.

Colonel Luis Alejandro Cubillos, the commander of the Magdalena Medio Police confirmed that also known as ‘Chato’, one of the leaders, was among those captured. The officer informed that they successfully apprehended four men and two women who were wanted for the crime of conspiracy to commit a crime. “They were part of the Edgar Madrid Benjumea substructure in San Pablo, which was responsible for issuing orders related to targeted killings and extortion”, Colonel Cubillos stated.
The six individuals were engaged in criminal activities in the municipalities of Cantagallo, San Pablo, Puerto Wilches, and Barrancabermeja.

The ‘Clan del Golfo’, also known as the Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AGC), is the largest criminal gang in Colombia. The illegal gang, primarily engages in drug trafficking, illegal mining, extortion, and other illicit activities. The organization emerged from the remnants of paramilitary groups that were active during Colombia's armed conflict.
