Bangladesh: 11-year-old girl dies after being hit by professor’s car

An 11-year-old student died after being hit by a teacher’s car in Kushtia on Thursday night. The deceased has been identified as Umme Rukaiya, a fifth-standard student.

Shailkupa police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aminul Islam said that the accident was reported on Kushtia-Jhenaidah Highway at noon.

A speeding car of Islamic University political science department Chairperson Assistant Professor Sherina Khatun hit Rukaiya while she was returning home from school, leaving her seriously injured on the spot.

Later, locals rescued the girl and rushed her to a hospital for treatment where the attending doctors referred her to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital for better treatment.

However, later that night, Rukaiya succumbed to her injuries. An unnatural death case was lodged with the Shailkupa police station in this connection, the OC added.
