Armed people kill a cashier and steal Shs95 million in Kamuli

The circumstances under which the cashier at the GM Sugar Weigh Bridge was shot and hurt before being robbed of Sh95 million by unidentified armed thugs are being looked into by police in the Kamuli District.

Kobil Goswami, the cashier, was assaulted on Sunday at the GM Sugar weigh bridge premises in the Luzinga central 1 Zone, Wankole Sub County, Kamuli District, according to the police.

A spokesperson for the Busoga North Region Police, ASP Micheal Kasadha, confirmed the robbery and shooting and stated that five suspects have already been detained to aid in the investigation.

“We have begun an investigation to determine how unidentified gunmen shot the cashier at the GM Sugar Weigh Bridge and then stole him Sh95 million. He was at home at the time of the incident, just a few meters from the weighbridge, according to Mr. Kasadha.

He claimed that preliminary police investigations indicate that after restricting Kirya’s freedom, the attackers forced him to lead them to the cashier’s home, which he did. As part of the continuing investigation, Kirya is one of the suspects being detained.

“Once inside their destination, the assailants shot Kobil in the left shoulder and demanded cash. Before they left the scene, they allegedly searched the house and found Sh.95 million, Mr. Kasadha added.
