The Comorian national telecommunications operator, Comores Telecom, witnessed a major crisis on Monday, May 29, when its employees staged a protest against the salary cuts ordered by the general manager, Said Ali Chayhane. The employees claimed that they were unfairly penalized for not bringing back three new customers each, as demanded by the manager. The protest caused a disruption of the company's activities and required the intervention of the security forces.

A controversial decision

According to several employees of Comores Telecom, they were shocked to discover that their salary for the month of May had been reduced by a significant amount due to their failure to meet the target of three new customers for the FTTH fiber service. They denounced this decision as arbitrary and abusive, and accused the manager of misusing his power. "We were robbed of our salary. The director abused his power. What have we done to deserve this? I wonder why he cut our salaries. It is not provided for in the company's regulations to require us to bring back three customers to subscribe to this cursed FTTH fiber", said an angry employee. "Where does this money go that he took from our salaries? he asked himself.

Another employee pointed out that the manager should have taken action against those who invested in the Nazra Ponzi scheme and caused losses to the company instead of punishing innocent workers. "I wonder what the marketing department does if agents have to bring back three subscribers. They should have announced a reward for those who manage to bring three customers, instead of punishing them if they fail. It was not the best strategy. It is an abuse of power," he said. He also revealed that even the head of marketing had admitted that the target was unrealistic and impossible to achieve.

A tense situation

The employees expressed their dissatisfaction by gathering in front of the company's headquarters in Moroni Volo Volo on Monday morning. They demanded an explanation and a reversal of the salary cuts from the manager, who did not show up. The situation became tense when some employees tried to force their way into the building and were confronted by the security guards. The police were called in to restore order and disperse the crowd. No injuries or arrests were reported, but some damage was done to the company's property.
