Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil stressed the importance of adopting a holistic approach to combat cyber attacks. He emphasized that cybersecurity measures should go beyond solely focusing on prevention and instead encompass people, processes, and technology. Fahmi stated that the evolving threat landscape requires a shift in strategy towards minimizing the impact of cyber attacks when they do occur. He revealed that Malaysia faced an average of 84 million cyber attacks per day during the fourth quarter of 2022, resulting in substantial financial losses and reputational damage.

Fahmi highlighted the wide range of cyber attacks that Malaysia encounters, including fraud, social engineering tactics, phishing, malware/ransomware, denial of service attacks, and cyber espionage. By prioritizing user well-being, implementing effective moderation policies, and striving for a safer digital ecosystem, organizations can collectively combat issues such as scams, fake news, and the spread of false information.
