According to a study of language proficiency in over 100 countries, Norwegians are among the best English speakers in the world.
Norwegians have a very high level of English proficiency, ranking third in Europe and fourth overall, according to the 2022 EF English Proficiency Index.
The ranking was compiled using data from over two million adult test takers from 111 different countries and regions. Norway finished sixth with 627 points out of a possible 700, trailing Austria (628) and the Netherlands (661).
The global average score was 502. According to the results of the tests, Bergen has the most proficient English speakers. The locals scored an extremely impressive 655 points there. After Bergen, Oslo and Hamar had the highest level of language proficiency.
In terms of regions, the English language proficiency of Norway’s west was higher than that of the country’s east and north.
