The Azores Seismovolcanic Information and Surveillance Center (CIVISA) in Portugal reported that two earthquakes were experienced on Monday on Terceira Island in the Azores. The first earthquake, measuring 1.9 on the Richter scale, occurred at 5:19 am and was felt with a maximum intensity of III in the parish of Terra Chã, Angra do Heroísmo. The second earthquake, with a magnitude of 2.1, took place at 9:40 am and had its epicenter located five kilometers away from Santa Bárbara.

The second earthquake caused a higher impact, with maximum intensity recorded as III/IV in the parish of Santa Bárbara and intensity III in São Bartolomeu, both within the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo.

According to the Instituto do Mar and Atmosphere (IPMA), an intensity level of IV is considered "moderate," leading to the shaking of parked cars and the rattling of windows, doors, and crockery. It may also cause the creaking of walls and wooden structures. In contrast, intensity level III, categorized as weak, is characterized by vibrations similar to those caused by heavy vehicle passage and the swinging of hanging objects within houses. Although these earthquakes were relatively minor, they had noticeable effects in the affected areas
