A group of armed men attacked a truck belonging to the national protection unit (UNP) that was transporting the sub-secretary for ethnic affairs of the Valle del Cauca government in Colombia.
The incident occurred on the roads of the department in the western part of the country, on the way to Pedregal, a rural and mountainous area of Florida municipality in the southeast of the region.
At a checkpoint, allegedly belonging to the FARC dissidents, the vehicle’s crew members were removed, and the truck was set on fire. The event happened a kilometer and a half from the La Olla tourist center, on Via La Diana, and firefighters managed to control the flames.
This is not the first attack on government officials in Colombia. On March 7th, the director of the National Protection Unit (UNP), Augusto Rodriguez, was targeted in an attack near his residence in the south of Bogota.
