The Fifth Victim: A Tragic Tale of MV Tung Sung

The Unfortunate Discovery

In yet another grim event, the search and rescue team working on the vessel MV Tung Sung, which capsized near Pulau Burung in Sebuyau, has recovered a fifth body. The unfortunate discovery marks the fifth victim of the distressing incident. The ship’s location is approximately 103 kilometres from Kuching. The body was found in the cabin of the ship, which had been refloated the previous evening. The recovery was confirmed by the director of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sarawak, First Admiral (Maritime) Zin Azman Md Yunus.

Transferring the Victim

Upon the discovery, the body was transported to the Sebuyau Sarawak River Board Jetty. From there, it was handed over to the police and subsequently taken to the Sarawak General Hospital. At the hospital, the body will undergo identification and further investigation. As of the present moment, the search efforts have been halted. According to the director, the efforts will resume if new leads are discovered. Currently, there are no new indications regarding the three other victims reported to have been onboard the ship when the incident occurred.

The Capsizing

The ship capsized at 11 pm on July 19. On July 22, the bodies of four other crew members were discovered but are yet to be identified. All in all, eight crew members, ranging in age from 20 to 52, were reported missing after the ship capsized. The missing individuals include three locals from Sibu, four individuals from Myanmar, and one from Indonesia.
