A tragic incident occurred during the Ganesh festival in Madhya Pradesh’s Datia district when four children drowned, and two others suffered serious injuries. The incident happened on Tuesday evening in the village of Nirawal Bidania during the immersion of a Ganesh idol in a local pond.
The victims, aged between 14 and 16, were part of a group that had gone to the pond for the immersion ceremony. Among the deceased were three girls. The two children who were rescued are in serious condition and have been sent to a hospital in Gwalior for further treatment.
The villagers present at the scene managed to rescue three children who were drowning. Unfortunately, they could not save the lives of the other four children. The local police have launched an investigation into the incident.

The incident took place during the ongoing 10-day Ganesh festival. The children had reached the pond for the immersion of an idol, a ritual performed during the festival. Observing the children drowning, some villagers intervened and managed to rescue three out of seven children. The remaining four, including three girls, tragically lost their lives.
Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma confirmed the incident and the ages of the deceased. Police are currently investigating the cause of the incident. The two rescued children who were in a serious condition were referred to a hospital in Gwalior for further treatment.
This tragic event raises questions about safety measures during religious ceremonies and the need for adult supervision. The incident has cast a pall over the Ganesh festival celebrations in the district and has led to calls for increased vigilance and safety during such events.
