Fire Incident in Pancoran Mas District, 15 Workers Evacuated

A local micro, small, and medium enterprise (UMKM) located at Lantansa 2 Street, in the Mampang Village of the Pancoran Mas district, recently experienced a significant fire incident. The event resulted in a swift response from the Depok City Fire and Rescue Team (DPKP), who managed to evacuate 15 workers trapped during the incident.
Triggering Event: Gas Stove Explosion
According to reports, the fire initiated when a gas stove exploded while the UMKM employees, primarily women, were frying pempek, a traditional Indonesian fish cake. The explosion led to all 15 workers being evacuated to the nearest clinic with varying degrees of burn injuries. Fortunately, none of the injuries were fatal, but some employees who couldn’t run sustained injuries during the process.
The UMKM, which primarily produced pempek for sale in local stores and stalls, caught fire around 11:03 AM. The DPKP, upon receiving the report, departed at 11:05 AM, and arrived at the scene of the fire by 11:17 AM. By this time, the 155 square meter house was already significantly engulfed in flames.
Fire Extinguishing and Cooling Processes
In their attempt to extinguish the fire, the DPKP deployed 15 fire trucks carrying 50,000 liters of water and 30 personnel, considering the residential location of the business. The fire team initially blockaded the houses on the right and left sides, which were only one meter away. They then moved to the front and back of the house. Cooling processes continued into the evening to ensure the location was completely safe.
Other Fires in Depok City
The incident at the UMKM was just one of four fire-related events that occurred in Depok City on September 26th. The other fires involved a house and three trash heaps. However, no lives were lost in these incidents, displaying the efficiency and rapid response of the local fire department.
