
Dhaka-Northern Bangladesh Rail Communication Disrupted by Rangpur Express Derailment

In the early hours of Tuesday, November 21, 2023, a derailment incident involving the Rangpur Express train disrupted the railway operations connecting Dhaka and the northern regions of Bangladesh. The train’s luggage compartment derailed near Tangail station around 4:40 a.m., shortly after the train departed from Bangabandhu East railway station, heading towards Dhaka.
Railway Communication Severed
Officer-in-Charge Abu Salam Miah of Tangail Sadar police station confirmed the derailment and noted that the rail communication disruption has been ongoing since the incident at approximately 5 a.m. This event has brought significant disruption to rail services, impacting travel and transport across the region.

No Casualties Reported
Sub-Inspector Md Akbar of the Tangail Railway Police reported the mishap to railway authorities. A rescue team was promptly dispatched to the site to handle the situation. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported in the incident.

Rescue and Recovery Efforts
The passengers on the derailed train were evacuated safely and transported to Dhaka by the Tangail Commuter train at around 7:30 a.m. As of now, efforts to restore the disrupted rail service are underway. Tangail Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Hasan Bin Mohammad Ali, who visited the site, stated that the incident does not seem to be an act of sabotage.
