The owners of a cold storage facility where 14 people died and several others were injured due to a building collapse have been arrested by police in Uttarakhand’s Haldwani region. Ankur and Rohit Agarwal, proprietors of the cold storage, were taken into custody following the tragedy that occurred on Indira Road within the Chandausi police station boundaries.
According to officials, 24 people were rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building, but 14 could not be saved. A commission has been established by the chief minister to investigate the cause of the collapse.
Police filed a complaint against the Agarwal brothers under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code for causing death by carelessness. The authorities found that the building’s roof was constructed without the necessary approval from the administration just three months ago. Furthermore, the cold storage was storing potatoes beyond its prescribed capacity.
The arrest of the cold storage owners is a significant development in the case and may bring some relief to the families of those affected by the tragedy.
