Urfahraner Autumn Market: A Blend of Tradition and Celebration in Linz

Urfahraner Autumn Market: A Recurring Tradition
From 30th September to 8th October, the city of Linz, located on the northern banks of the Danube, will be buzzing with the excitement of the Urfahraner Autumn Market. This annual event, which has been a staple in the city’s calendar for over 200 years, offers a unique blend of amusement park, music, food, and sales exhibition, designed to enthrall large crowds.
Preparation and Kick-off
The preparations for the Urfahraner Autumn Market have been ongoing for weeks, involving a major logistical project with hundreds of participants. The event will officially open with Mayor Klaus Luger and city councillor Doris Lang Mayerhofer extending an invitation for attendees to enjoy free rides on all amusement facilities from 10 to 11 am. This gesture is to express gratitude for their years of loyalty and patronage.
Highlights and Collaborations
One of the highlights of the event is the inclusion day, which is being celebrated for the first time on Thursday. Claudia Em, a renowned presenter, cabaret artist, and author, will present her new book at the media café on this occasion. Additionally, the event will host the ÖH Semester Opening for the second time, in collaboration with the student unions of Linz’s universities and colleges. The opening will feature a party with the band Karambolage, and students will enjoy discounted prices at rides and sales stands.
Exhibitors, Caterers, and Attractions
With a diverse range of 280 exhibitors and caterers, the festival will offer a unique experience to its attendees. Among the attractions is a music express with a colourful airbrush design and LED multicolour technology, offering guests a mesmerising light and music show. The Urfahraner market, with its wide mix of show businesses, food, music, and sales, has been a market for everyone for over 200 years.
Family Day and Inclusion Focus
The event also includes a family day on Wednesday, 4th October, offering discounted prices at the rides and sales stands until 7 pm. On Thursday, 5th October, the focus will be on inclusion, with Claudia Em presenting her new book at the media café. The day will also feature cakes and pastries from Inclusive Operation Culinary Catering.
Ecumenical Service and Fireworks
The ecumenical service in the Autodrom Straßmeier is an important fixed point for the showmen and will take place on Friday, 6th October, at 11 am. A fireworks display by ARGE will illuminate the sky on Friday, 6th October, at 9:30 pm. The Magistrat’s music Linz, under the direction of bandmaster Christian Pirklbauer, will provide a diverse brass music enjoyment on the second Sunday, 8th October, from 11 am to 5 pm in the festival tent.
Tradition and Celebration in Linz
The Urfahraner Autumn Market is much more than an event; it’s a testament to the city’s rich history and vibrant culture. With its combination of tradition and celebration, it not only attracts the locals but also tourists from far and wide. As Linz gears up for the Autumn Market, the city is all set to continue its tradition of hosting one of Austria’s most loved folk festivals.
