British actor Tom Holland, widely recognized for his portrayal of Spider-Man and Nathan Drake in the game adaptation of Uncharted, has earned a reputation for performing thrilling stunts. In a conversation with Reuters, Holland emphasized the importance of distinguishing the style of Nathan Drake, despite both his renowned characters being associated with climbing. The actor spoke about the thrill of testing the boundaries of physical capabilities in these large-scale films.
Holland specifically recollected a demanding action sequence in which his character fell from an airplane and had to reboard. He described this event as the most physically challenging endeavor he had ever undertaken, which resulted in worn-out hands and exhaustion. Regardless of the physical toll, Holland acknowledged that such levels of physicality are apparent on screen, contributing to the impressiveness of the sequence.
While Holland seems to enjoy challenging himself, he expressed a desire for a change of pace in his future projects. The actor revealed his interest in featuring in a romantic comedy, indicating a need for a project where he could take it easy. Recently, Holland was seen in the series The Crowded Room, which provided a departure from the physical demands of his typical roles.
In a past statement, Holland shared his initial disappointment with the new Spider-Man costume design, stating it wasn’t as cool as he had hoped. As an actor who has been a fan of Spider-Man since his childhood, the anticipation of donning the Spidey suit for the first time was immense. However, the costume was too loose and baggy, as it was designed around his stunt double, leading to an underwhelming first impression. Despite this initial disappointment, Holland has described landing the Spider-Man role as a dream come true.
Tom Holland’s journey into the Spider-Man universe was highly anticipated due to the responsibility of revitalizing a beloved franchise. Sony and Marvel, in an unprecedented collaboration, scoured the talent pool to find the perfect fit for the web-slinging hero. As per sources, Holland’s athletic prowess and gymnastic skills made him a suitable choice, but his leaner stature presented a slight hiccup.
During his early days on set, Holland was compelled to wear his stunt double’s suit, which was larger than his size. This led to a baggy and less impressive look for Spider-Man. However, the costume designers quickly rectified the issue, ensuring the suit perfectly complemented their new star. Reflecting on his second attempt wearing the revamped Spider-Man costume, Holland expressed his thrill and awe, finally experiencing the vision he had for stepping into the iconic red and blue attire.
While Holland has spent six years as Spider-Man and could potentially spend many more, he has expressed uncertainty about his future in the role. The actor has shared his desire to explore other ambitions, including potentially being James Bond. He has also been developing a script with his brother Harry, and is currently preparing to shoot The Crowded Room, an Apple TV drama about dissociative identity disorder. With these diverse interests, Holland’s future in Hollywood looks as exciting as his present.
