South Korean Actress Seonwoo Yong-yeo Survived a Multimillion-Dollar Debt Crisis

Unveiling a Multi-Million Dollar Debt Crisis
In a recent episode of a popular South Korean variety show ‘Oh Eun-young’s Golden Counseling Center’, renowned actress Seonwoo Yong-yeo disclosed a significant event that marked her life. She confessed about a time when she was embroiled in a financial crisis due to a staggering debt of 20 billion won, which is approximately $17 million in current value. The debt crisis was so severe that it led to the postponement of her wedding.
The debt was attributed to a promissory note that her husband had guaranteed for a friend. This financially draining situation resulted in her husband being incarcerated and their property being confiscated to offset the debt. The property was valued at the price of 18 houses at the time, which was approximately 1.75 million won with a single house worth 100 million won. Additionally, their land, which spanned 22,000 pyeong (approximately 72,600 square meters), was also seized. The couple had to endure trials for 18 long years.
Surviving Against All Odds
Despite the immense hardship, Seonwoo Yong-yeo managed to pull through. When she was 35 years old, she acquired a house by promising to pay a deferred amount of 500,000 won to a housing distribution company. The house, originally purchased for 2.5 million won in the 1970s, saw its value increase to 8 million won within a span of just seven months. During this period, Seonwoo Yong-yeo remained active professionally and commuted regularly.
Personality Transformation Amidst Crisis
Seonwoo Yong-yeo also revealed that she underwent a significant change in personality after her marriage. Prior to her wedding, she was extremely emotional and would often cry while speaking. However, the stress and responsibilities stemming from the debt crisis completely transformed her personality. She became quick-tempered, a change that was noticed by the people around her.
When asked if a person’s personality can change, psychologist Oh Eun-young, who was present on the show, stated that while one’s temperament doesn’t alter, their personality can undergo significant changes. These changes are especially likely in old age or when they encounter major events or changes in their lives.
Conclusion
The story of Seonwoo Yong-yeo is a testament to human resilience and the ability to adapt in the face of adversity. Despite facing a financial crisis of an enormous magnitude, she not only survived but also transformed and adapted to her circumstances. Her story also raises profound questions about the interplay between personal experiences and personality changes.
