Reviving the Magic of Storytelling: The Story Time Program Reboot
Rebooting the Joy of Reading
In an age where digital modes of entertainment have taken center stage, the traditional medium of storytelling has been largely overshadowed. However, in 2021, the Story Time program, a beloved initiative by libraries worldwide, has been relaunched to rekindle the magic of storytelling among the young audience.
Story Time, an interactive session rich in stories and imagination, has been restructured to take place in the youth section of the library or in an annex specifically designed for activities. The program’s focus is not just to engage children but also to foster a love for reading and storytelling.
Fureur de lire: Stories of Exploration and Adventure
On the 11th of October, the Story Time program will host a session from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., centered around the Fureur de lire festival. The theme, “Cap au Nord,” promises to transport listeners to a world of exploration, adventure, and suspense. These sessions aim to stimulate the young minds to dream, explore, and venture into the uncharted territories of their imagination.
Nourrir l’OVA: A Blend of Food, Nature, and Resilience
Not limiting itself to adventure and exploration, Story Time is also set to touch on themes of everyday life. On the 14th of October, the program will revolve around the Nourrir l’OVA festival. The backdrop of this session will be food, nature, and resilience. Through stories centered around these themes, the program aims to instill values of sustainability, resilience, and appreciation for nature.
Session Structure: A Balanced Mix of Interaction and Storytelling
Every session of Story Time has been meticulously curated to engage and stimulate the young audience. The sessions begin with a welcome song and a rhyme to set the mood. As the session progresses, the storyteller introduces the theme and shares relevant stories. The participants are encouraged to interact, ask questions, and share their thoughts. This interactive approach ensures that the children are not passive listeners but active participants in the storytelling process.
Virtual Story Time: Adapting to the New Normal
In response to the ongoing global health crisis, Story Time has also adapted to the digital platform. The virtual story times are hosted via a live closed room Zoom session, with strict measures to ensure security and the best possible interactive experience for the participants. Participants are given the freedom to control their visibility and are encouraged to interact through chat. The virtual platform has allowed Story Time to continue its mission of fostering a love for storytelling and reading among children, despite the challenging times.
Outdoor Story Times: Bringing Stories to Life
In addition to the virtual sessions, Story Time has also introduced outdoor sessions. These sessions are held in city parks, where children can enjoy storytelling in the lap of nature. Safety measures, such as social distancing, are strictly adhered to during these sessions. The outdoor environment adds a new dimension to the storytelling experience, making it more real and engaging for the children.
The revival of the Story Time program is a testament to the timeless appeal of storytelling. By adapting to the changing times and introducing innovative themes, the program continues to foster a love for reading and storytelling among children. Whether it’s an adventure in the North or a lesson on resilience, Story Time promises to transport children to a world rich in imagination, learning, and fun.
