Racing Spectacle: A Comprehensive Preview of the 11th Grand National du Trot Stage

Setting the Scene for the Grand National du Trot
The Grand National du Trot, a highly anticipated horse racing event, is gearing up for its 11th stage at the picturesque Mont-Saint-Michel. Scheduled for Wednesday, this stage is bound to be a thrilling spectacle with top contenders like Horace du Goutier and Gaspar d’Angis leading the pack. Both these horses have displayed exceptional performances, earning their spots as solid leaders in the provisional general classification of this challenge.
A Close Look at the Top Contenders
Horace du Goutier, a frontrunner in the competition, has an impressive track record with victories at Saint-Brieuc, Laval, Langon, La Rochelle, and Angers recently. As he enters this race, he is determined to secure his sixth stage victory. However, he faces stiff competition from Gaspar d’Angis, another strong contender who has demonstrated his prowess in the 2023 edition of the Grand National du Trot. Gaspar d’Angis has dominated the stages at Marseille-Borély, Lyon-Parilly, Croisé-Laroche, and Saint-Malo, where he surpassed our favorite, Horace du Goutier, in early August.
Among other noteworthy participants is Gigolo Lover, a progeny of Royal Lover. Gigolo Lover has proven his mettle in this type of competition with six podium finishes, including three victories, and thirteen quintets races to his credit. A recent runner-up to Horace du Goutier in Angers, he is expected to reaffirm his standing in the race.
Underdogs and Dark Horses
While the spotlight is on the frontrunners, there are several other noteworthy competitors. Ginko du Roussoir, although the least moneyed in the race, has won six out of his last eight public performances. His only outing on this track was also a success in June 2023, making him a potential dark horse in the race.
Gaelic du Rocher, yet to achieve a quintet victory, has three top-five finishes in six attempts. He was third in the Saint-Malo stage, behind the two favorites, and will aim to match or better that in this stage. Halicia Bella, who finished fourth in the August Grand National du Trot event in Saint-Malo, is another participant to watch out for.
Although Fanatic Flash, an 8-year-old, seems unlikely to win against his juniors, he has had a successful run, finishing a strong 5th in the Saint-Malo stage. Goutte du Houlbet, who hasn’t won since November 2022, is an excellent right-hander and finished 5th in a Gr.II last month at Argentan. Both these horses could potentially surprise spectators with their performances.
Substitutes and Predictions
In case of non-starters, Flash de Vely serves as a good substitute. As per the selection by Stéphane Davy, Horace du Goutier and Gaspar d’Angis form the base, with Gigolo Lover, Ginko du Roussoir, and Gaelic du Rocher as regular chances. Halicia Bella, Fanatic Flash, and Goutte du Houlbet are considered outsiders but could potentially shake up the race.
The Grand National du Trot is an exhilarating event that brings together some of the finest trotters in the nation. As we anticipate the 11th stage, it’s clear that there are several strong contenders. Whether you’re a spectator or a bettor, the Grand National du Trot promises to deliver an unforgettable racing spectacle.
